Who the Tutors Are
Trained peer tutors, and at times, professional staff, are available to tutor specific subject areas and assist students in developing effective learning strategies.
What is Drop In Tutoring?
Tutors are available at scheduled times available for students who "Drop In" for tutoring. At Drop In tutoring, there may be more than one student who needs tutoring at a time. The tutor then helps the group.
How Can I become a Tutor?
To qualify, tutors are recommended by AHC instructors. Prospective tutors must be enrolled in at least 6 units of AHC credit classes.
Guide to an Effective Tutoring Experience
Did you know that students who participate in 10 hours of tutoring get better grades? A few tips:
Check the Schedule
Not all subjects are covered at all times. Check the
schedule linked here for Santa Maria or for Lompoc Valley Center.
Attend class. Take notes. Read the textbook. Try the assignments.
Come with questions. Be prepared to work with the tutor.
Appreciate Peer Tutoring
Tutors are students like you. While they are trained and knowledgeable,
they don’t know everything. They do not evaluate your work. They do
not guarantee grades. They will, however, provide appropriate academic
assistance and a unique perspective.
Understand Drop-In Tutoring
AHC Tutorial offers drop-in tutoring, which means you may have to share
a tutor at times.
Improve Your Learning
Tutors will encourage you to work on your own after some assistance so
that you can improve your learning and so others can receive help.
Your feedback is important to us. Every tutoring session is different
and we want to know about your experience.
